Why POS can't do it on its own
In your Shopify admin you can give an order payment terms, so it's created now and paid later. POS checkout has no such option: every POS sale is paid there and then. Shopify brought B2B features to every plan in April 2026, but not to POS. So shops with trade customers keep a paper book at the counter and type it all up at month end.
The free way
- In Shopify, open the customer (or add them) so the order is in their name.
- Go to Orders › Drafts › Create order. Add the items they took.
- In the Payment section, choose Payment due later, then pick a term from Payment terms (Net 30, for example). Click Save.
- Create the order. It shows with payment pending and a due date.
- If they're taking the goods now, fulfill the order so the stock comes off.
- At month end, list each customer's unpaid orders and email them what they owe, with the invoice for each order.
- When they pay, open each order, click Collect payment and Mark as paid (or record what they paid if it's only part).
Tip: tag these orders (for example "House account") so you can filter them later.
Where the free way falls short
- It isn't at the till. Someone leaves the counter to type a draft order while the customer waits, or writes it in the book and types it later.
- There's no credit limit. Nothing stops an account going over what you agreed.
- No one signs anything. When a charge is questioned, there's no signed slip.
- Month end is by hand: working out each customer's balance and age, then a statement per customer.
- Nothing chases late payers or stops new charges for an account that's 60 days behind.
The easier way: RNS House Charge Accounts
RNS House Charge Accounts adds Charge to account to Shopify POS and keeps a book for every account.
- In the app, Open an account for a customer: credit limit, terms, PO number if they need one, and who may buy.
- At the till, add the customer to the sale, open them and tap Charge to account. The sale becomes a Shopify order with payment due, the stock comes off at that location, and a slip prints for the customer to sign.
- On the 1st, every account gets a statement with a Pay link for each open order. Record cash, cheque or bank transfer payments in the app; reminders chase what's overdue, and an account that falls too far behind goes on hold, with a warning to you first.
One thing to know: Shopify only counts orders that POS itself makes in POS reports, and apps can't create those, so account charges show as online orders. The app's book has every charge, each tagged with its location.
Free: up to 3 accounts and 20 charges a month. Pro: $19 a month with a 14-day free trial, for unlimited accounts, statements with Pay links and reminders. Pro+: $29 a month, adding an order desk for phoned orders and AI that reads a buyer's PO.
Questions
Can Shopify POS sell on Net 30?
No. Payment terms work on orders made in the Shopify admin, but not at POS checkout, on any plan (checked October 2026). That's why house accounts need either draft orders in the admin or an app.
Does Shopify B2B fix this?
Shopify's B2B features (company accounts, payment terms) came to all plans in April 2026, but they work on your online store and in the admin, not at the POS till.
Can customers pay their account online?
Yes. An order with payment terms has its own pay link to Shopify checkout. RNS House Charge Accounts puts one per order on each statement.
